Career first world championship points for Odendaal
The circuit of Mugello in the beautiful Tuscany region hosted the Italian round of the 2018 Moto2 World Championship this weekend, welcoming over 100,000 spectators on race day to witness one of the greatest battles on two wheels in the world. The Moto2 race was once again a breath-taking spectacle and turned into a historical moment for both Steven Odendaal and the NTS manufacturer, who have scored their first ever points in the world championship. “The weekend went well for us. We were improving in every session and considering that we did not test here a few weeks ago like many other teams, I was going into the race quite confident.
My pace was really good in the first part of the race; my lap times were consistent and faster than quite a few guys in front of me. The conditions were difficult with the heat, however, and half way through the race I run out of grip. I tried to stay focused and push as hard as I could to finish the race. I am really happy with this 15th position and my first world championship point. I am happy to give NTS their first points because they really deserved this motivation and reward for all their hard work. I have been helping them to develop the chassis since last year and it is very encouraging to see all the hard work starting to pay off. We have reached our first objective and now we need to raise the bar and continue in this direction. Tomorrow I will be testing the new chassis for the first time and I am really looking forward to see whether it gives us a bit of an advantage in Catalunya in two weeks’ time. Thanks to my team and everyone for their support.”
